Our History

  • Career Centers of El Paso was founded in October 1985 as a branch of San Antonio College of Medical and Dental Assistants. The El Paso campus was one of a group of Texas schools located in El Paso, McAllen, and San Antonio.
  • In November 1998, Career Centers of Texas, El Paso became free standing as a separate corporation and became Career Centers of Texas–El Paso, Inc.
  • In November 1996, the El Paso School was purchased by Educational Medical, Inc., a school company with headquarters in Roswell, Georgia. EMI changed its name to Quest Education Corporation in September 1998.
  • In June 1999, Career Centers of Texas, El Paso moved their main campus to 8360 Burnham Road, Suite 100, El Paso, Texas, to better accommodate the growing student population.
  • Quest was purchased in July 2000 by Kaplan, Inc.
  • In November 2002, Career Centers of Texas, Brownsville campus was opened in Brownsville, Texas, as a branch of Career Centers of Texas, El Paso.
  • In December 2002, Quest changed its name to Kaplan Higher Education Corporation.
  • In April 2010, Career Centers of Texas changed its name to Kaplan College.

Kaplan College, Brownsville campus is located in the Omni Pavilion Shopping Center off the main expressway in Brownsville, Texas. The school is just ten minutes from the Texas/Mexico border and occupies the entire west building of the shopping center. Its appearance is deceiving on the outside, but once inside students and guests are frequently surprised at how big the school actually is. Spacious classrooms, two student break areas, and an outdoor patio provide a comfortable learning environment in which you can focus on your education.

A Convenient Location in Brownsville

Brownsville, Texas, lies at the extreme southern tip of Texas just across an international bridge from Matamoros, Mexico. Boca Chica Beach, Laguna Madre, the Gulf of Mexico, and South Padre Island are all within close proximity, offering easy access to gorgeous white sand beaches. The climate is favorable for outdoor activities most of the year. Residents and visitors enjoy boating, fishing, bird watching, golf, museums, historic sites, and fabulous restaurants, night clubs, and shopping on both sides of the international border.

Brownsville is the major manufacturing center of the Rio Grande Valley with a global marketplace focused on manufacturing and assembly production using some of today's most highly technical manufacturing operations. Agriculture and the shrimping industry are significant factors in the area's economic development, creating thousands of jobs and pumping millions of dollars into the local economy.
